BMS Challenges in 400-Volt and 800V EV Architectures: Powertrain Development and Testing Using HIL

Overview

Battery Management Systems (BMS) are the heart of Electric Vehicle (EV) powertrains and are critical for ensuring performance, safety, longevity, accuracy, and efficient battery operation.

With the current state of the art battery systems designed around 400-volt as well as emerging 800-volt battery systems, there is an increasing demand for a more streamlined design and fully automated testing processes in every phase of the product lifecycle — from early development to system integration and lifecycle maintenance as companies compete to remain current in this adoption.

However, due to BMS’s complexity and the need for its integration and interoperability with other powertrain components, the development process is often fragmented, costly, and extremely time consuming.

Join Typhoon HIL and our BMS experts in the second part of our HIL for e-Mobility Webinar Series addressing BMS challenges in the constantly evolving EV market for companies that are designing and integrating battery systems.

Attendees will learn about the:

  • Current developments and future trends for both 400-volt and 800-volt BMS
  • Barriers companies are facing to a larger adoption rate for the 800-volt systems
  • Shifting evolution of BMS applications and the essential communication interfaces required in the migration
  • Effect on model-based control to accurately manage cells for optimal power, capacity, and performance
  • Evolution of high-fidelity simulations which enable more accurate state-of-charge (SoC) and state-of-health (SoH) estimations
