The Typhoon HIL Best Paper Award Latin America 2025 recognizes applied research accelerating the digital transformation of power electronics and power systems. It honors innovations validated through real-time simulation, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and digital twin technologies—celebrating OT solutions that deliver measurable, real-world impact.

By championing the convergence of OT and IT, highlighting test automation as key to scalable, sustainable innovation, the award showcases research with the potential to drive globally impactful, environmentally sustainable technologies. Following its launch in Europe, the award now expands to Latin America, aiming to spotlight research excellence across the region and empower the next generation of engineering breakthroughs.

Eligibility & Criteria

To be eligible for the Typhoon HIL Best Paper Award Latin America 2025, submissions must showcase applied research that advances digital power systems—preferably using real-time simulation, HIL, or digital twin technologies—with demonstrated relevance to real-world challenges in power electronics or power systems.

Key Criteria:

  • Papers must be published in journals, transactions, or conference proceedings.
  • Papers must be written in English.
  • At least one author must be affiliated with a Latin American institution.
  • Papers must have been published, accepted for publication, or presented at a conference within the  period of April 30, 2020, up to the BPA Latin America submission deadline.
  • Research must demonstrate clear applicability, particularly in the context of digitalization of the power grid, embedded software, control algorithms, and system validation.
  • Priority is given to research that rigorously tests ideas using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) platforms, whether Typhoon HIL, other vendors, or custom-built setups.

Awards & Recognition

The Evaluation Committee will review all submissions and select the Top 5 Papers, which will be divided into two categories:

Best Paper Awards (Top 3 Recipients):

  • One HIL604 real-time simulator
  • Fully integrated software toolchain with all toolboxes unlocked and unlimited installations for two years

Outstanding Paper Selections (2 Recipients):

  • One HIL101 real-time simulator
  • Fully integrated software toolchain with all toolboxes unlocked and unlimited installations for two years

All Top 5 Finalists will receive:

  • One full SEPOC 2025 registration (covered for one author)
  • Typhoon HIL Best Paper Award Latin America 2025 certificate (issued in the names of all authors)

Award Ceremony

The Typhoon HIL Best Paper Award Latin America 2025 will be presented during the 17th Seminar on Power Electronics and Control (SEPOC 2025) on November 9-12, 2025  in Balneário Camboriú – SC, Brazil.

Note: While the award ceremony will be held at SEPOC 2025, eligibility is not limited to papers submitted to the event.

What rights does Typhoon HIL reserve in this competition?The right to modify, suspend, or cancel the award and full discretion over evaluation and prizes.
