Conduct HIL Trials to Overcome the Complexity of Next-gen Naval Power System Design

Navies and the merchant marine are rapidly moving to purely electric loads and distributed energy resources aboard ship.  As this transition challenges traditional design and testing methodologies, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) and Digital Twin technologies are becoming indispensable tools.  Typhoon HIL leads the way in developing these capabilities and we are delighted to be a sponsor of the 2017 IEEE Electric Ship Technology Symposium (ESTS17) symposium taking place at the Westin Crystal City Hotel, Arlington, VA, from August 14 to 17.

ESTS17 will focus on electric ship technologies and the cutting-edge research behind them and provides commercial and naval ship operators, shipbuilders, OEMs and members of academia an opportunity to share ideas.  The event includes keynote speeches from Rear Admiral William J. Galinis (PEO Ships), Samuli Hanninen (ABB) and Lynn J. Petersen (ONR); six tutorial sessions; and 10 parallel technical sessions with more than 100 presentations.  In addition, we hope you will visit the Typhoon HIL booth for a comprehensive hands-on demo of our Marine Microgrid Testbed.

naval power system design

The Typhoon Marine Microgrid Testbed is a scalable, integrated, high-fidelity, real-time HIL system which can be readily scaled with up to 128 cores of processing power.  Our industry leading 500 ns simulation time step and 20 ns data sampling rate provide unmatched dynamic simulation and modeling of the Shipboard Microgrid, including pulse load and multi-physics interactions, in order to identify and resolve system interoperability issues early in the design process.   Our system provides a game-changing capability for more efficient and effective design and testing throughout the systems engineering lifecycle.

We hope to see you at ESTS17
